Sandburg Upward Bound Math-Science Program Hosting Science Fair May 25

Carl Sandburg College’s Upward Bound Math-Science program will host a science fair from 4:30-5:30 p.m. May 25 in the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery located in Building D on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

The public is invited to view projects that UBMS students created during the first semester of the free, federally funded grant program that encourages students to pursue careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Sandburg’s UBMS program is gearing up for its first full academic year in 2018-19. It serves 60 area students annually in the Abingdon-Avon, Galesburg, Knoxville, Monmouth-Roseville and ROWVA school districts who meet certain criteria. The goal of UBMS is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science, earn postsecondary degrees in those areas and pursue possible professions in STEM fields.

Sandburg is one of just six institutions in Illinois — and the only community college in the state — to house a UBMS program. Its funding level for the 2017-18 academic year is $263,938.
